Funded through Horizon Europe, the 135 new projects are expected to play a crucial role in advancing the European Union's ambitions and commitments outlined in the EU Green Deal

The EU Circular Economy Action Plan, the EU Zero Pollution Action Plan, the EU Bioeconomy Strategy Action Plan, EU Soil, EU Biodiversity, EU Forests, and EU Farm-to-Fork strategies are some of the EU policies and strategies that these EU-funded projects will also support through their innovative and sustainable solutions.

The projects, funded through a Horizon Europe 2023 call, will:

  1. Reduce environmental degradation
  2. Halt and reverse the decline of biodiversity
  3. Better manage natural resources
  4. Ensure food and water security

The projects have signed their Grant Agreements with the European Commission. Some of them have already begun their research while some will commence shortly.

MareGraph - Towards an Interoperable Marine Knowledge Graph

The MareGraph project, ‘Towards an Interoperable Marine Knowledge Graph’, obtained funding under the Digital Europe topic ‘OPEN-AI – Public Sector Open Data for AI and Open Data Platform’. The project will increase the semantic, technical, and legal interoperability of three selected high-valued datasets (HVDs) all maintained by the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ), which is one of the four partners of the project. This will allow the onboarding of essential marine datasets in the Common European Data Spaces. As such MareGraph will provide a structural component in the digital transition of the marine landscape. The numerous impacts of the project will benefit our seas globally in old and new ways to come.
