In order to close the research and innovation gap between the European Member States, the Commission has designed the Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation strategy. Measures supported under this strategy will help low R&I performing EU countries to increase their participation in Horizon Europe.

Reforming and Enhancing the European R&I System

Similar to the free movement of goods and services, the European Commission wants to expand the European Research area in which researchers and innovators can move around in the EU without encountering legal, technological or physical borders. The primary objective is thus to stimulate the mobility of people active in R&I and diffuse the available knowledge all over Europe.

COST (Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a EU funded programme that provides funding for research networks. COST's mission is to strengthen Europe in scientific and technological research through the support of European cooperation and interaction between European researchers.

Code4Europe: Digitale Wolven participates in research focused on widening digital literacy

Digitale Wolven, a Belgian non-profit organisation, forms the national hub for Belgium and the Netherlands in the Digital Europe project Code4Europe. Code4Europe aims to form a generation that is comfortable with digital tools and confident enough to build with them by widening digital literacy, making coding accessible to people who would otherwise never try it, and encouraging young people to picture themselves working in the digital sector.
