Pillar 1
This pillar focuses on the development of science through a threefold approach. This means first of all creation and diffusion of new knowledge, skills, technologies and solutions. Also it looks how we can build more world class research infrastructures and improve their access for researchers. Finally, it will try to boost the training and mobility of researchers.
Pillar 2
In this part, the European Commission is looking for projects and solutions that can solve current and future global challenges. This is therefore all about how Research and Innovation can improve our society.
Pillar 3
The key objective of this pillar is to bridge the existing gap from R&I to breaktrough innovative products and services
Horizontal
This transversal and horizontal initiative will support activities that help EU Member States to make most of their national research and innovation potential. In addition, this component will also promote an European Research Area (ERA) where researchers, scientific knowledge and technology can circulate freely.
EU missions are commitments to solve some of the greatest challenges facing our world like fighting cancer, adapting to climate change, protecting our oceans, living in greener cities and ensuring soil health and food. They are an integral part of the Horizon Europe framework programme.
This initiative wants to make a contribution to a more esthetic, inclusive and sustainable way of building in the EU
Horizontal
This work programme has been added to the existing Horizon Europe work programmes since 2025, with the aim to achieve EU policy goals.
Partnerships group the European Commission and private or public partners, to coordinate and streamline the research and innovation initiatives and funding in some selected key domains.
Testimonial
Ghent University is one of the higher education partners in Digital Europe skills project AGRITECH-EU, a project that aims to integrate knowledge of digital technologies into agricultural education. In the context of this project, Ghent University designs Life Long Learning modules for graduates of international programmes.
