This pillar focuses on the development of science through a threefold approach. This means first of all creation and diffusion of new knowledge, skills, technologies and solutions. Also it looks how we can build more world class research infrastructures and improve their access for researchers. Finally, it will try to boost the training and mobility of researchers.

Global Challenges & European Industrial Competitiveness

In this part, the European Commission is looking for projects and solutions that can solve current and future global challenges. This is therefore all about how Research and Innovation can improve our society.

Innovative Europe

The key objective of this pillar is to bridge the existing gap from R&I to breaktrough innovative products and services

Horizontal
Widening Participation & Strengthening the European Research Area

This transversal and horizontal initiative will support activities that help EU Member States to make most of their national research and innovation potential. In addition, this component will also promote an European Research Area (ERA) where researchers, scientific knowledge and technology can circulate freely.


Missions

EU missions are commitments to solve some of the greatest challenges facing our world like fighting cancer, adapting to climate change, protecting our oceans, living in greener cities and ensuring soil health and food. They are an integral part of the Horizon Europe framework programme.

EHRI-IP - European Holocaust Research Infrastructure

The European Holocaust Research Infrastructure Implementation Phase (EHRI-IP) project was funded under Horizon Europe call topic HORIZON-INFRA-2023-DEV-01-02. The project duration was two years and came to an end in February 2026. The main objective of the EHRI-IP project was to undertake all necessary legal, financial and strategic work to have a permanent organisation or ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium) fully operational by the end of the implementation phase.
