Programmes EITThe European institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has published the winners of the first call of their initiative “innovation capacity building for higher education”. This will support Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) with expertise and coaching, funding, and access to the EIT's innovation ecosystem.
There are 23 selected consortia out of 64 applicants. Three of them involve partners from Flanders notably Karel De Grote Hogeschool (SUA), Ugent (EU Accel) and UA (Inno4YUFE).
These consortia will each be awarded up to 1,2 million euro and will run until 2023. For those HEIs that are interested in this programme it is good to know that a second call will be announced in late 2021. If you want to know more information you can find all the info on this website.

AI Continent Deployment: Best use of technologies

The Horizon2020 project BEAT-AF brings together 9 European renowned clinical centres in France, Belgium, Czechia, Germany and Austria. Together, the consortium strives to revolutionize Atrial Fibrillation (AF) treatment through catheter ablation and contribute to decrease the huge burden of AF in Europe. The BEAT-AF project kicked off in 2021 and will run until 2026. The department of electrophysiology of the AZ Sint-Jan Hospital in Bruges is partner in the project and has so far contributed to the pre-clinical development, the first in man studies and first registries of the revolutionary AF treatment put forward by the consortium. The first pilot studies show that the treatment is safe, effective and efficient.
