ProgrammesThe Foodies is a sustainability award for small and medium-sized enterprises and impact start-ups in the EU agri-food sector. It is linked to SIAL Paris and supported by the European Commission. The award highlights sustainability work across four categories aligned with the EU Code of Conduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices.
The award covers four categories. Greener Planet looks at action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across operations and the wider food chain, such as lower energy use, renewable energy, better logistics and low-carbon technologies. Nutrition Action focuses on products and practices that help consumers move towards healthy and sustainable diets, including reformulation, new products, suitable portion sizes and clearer information. Circular Chain looks at prevention of food loss and waste, efficient resource use, by-product valorisation, redistribution, and packaging or process innovation. Shared Value covers decent work, resilient growth, fair partnerships, and responsible sourcing, including deforestation-free and socially sustainable practices.

The Horizon2020 project BEAT-AF brings together 9 European renowned clinical centres in France, Belgium, Czechia, Germany and Austria. Together, the consortium strives to revolutionize Atrial Fibrillation (AF) treatment through catheter ablation and contribute to decrease the huge burden of AF in Europe. The BEAT-AF project kicked off in 2021 and will run until 2026. The department of electrophysiology of the AZ Sint-Jan Hospital in Bruges is partner in the project and has so far contributed to the pre-clinical development, the first in man studies and first registries of the revolutionary AF treatment put forward by the consortium. The first pilot studies show that the treatment is safe, effective and efficient.
