The foresight study "Future Research and Technology infrastructures for Europe" is financed by the European Commission (DG RTD) and carried out by Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, Technopolis Consulting Group Belgium, and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. The study was granted under the multi-year framework contract Foresight on Demand. More informatin about FoD is available here and about the foresight study here

The goal of the foresight study is to identify and explore possible scenarios for a future “pan-European ecosystem of research and technology infrastructures”. Specifically, the following objectives will be addressed:

1. Identify the trends, megatrends and weak signals for the long-term evolution, potentials and needs of RTI from a European perspective.

2. Proposal of plausible scenarios for RTIs, that consider European RTIs in their ecosystems and their contribution to European scientific and technological competitiveness.

3. Map the implications of the identified trends and proposed scenarios for European RTIs governance and policy, mainly from an EU perspective.

During the first phase of this project that will run untill the end of 2026, the European Research and Technology Infrastructure stakeholders will be mapped. Therefore, the project team invites stakeholders interested in the study or willing to participate in the project workshops and events to reach out to matthias.deschryvere@vtt.fi and simone.kimpeler@isi.fraunhofer.de.

STARGATE - Sustainable Aviation

The Stargate project obtained funding under the special Green Deal call of Horizon 2020, more in particular under the topic of “green ports and airports”.  It received the maximum score of the evaluators and was selected out of more than 40 projects. Stargate’s purpose is to prove that sustainable aviation is possible and happening. It focuses on the further decarbonization of the aviation industry, the improvement of local environmental quality and the stimulation of the modal split. Together with a consortium of 21 European partners with a diverse and rich expertise (airports, community partners, knowledge institutions, consultants, local governments, …), Brussels Airports takes the lead as lighthouse airport to develop and implement innovative solutions. Results that prove successful can be deployed at the fellow airports (Toulouse, Budapest, Athens). Over the course of the coming five years, the consortium will exchange knowledge to investigate and realize more than 30 concrete projects.
