The Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission has launched a new call in the framework of JRC Open Access to its Research Infrastructures. This is the first call launched by the EU Reference Laboratory for alternatives to animal testing. The Call offers access to the JRC in vitro High Throughput Testing (HTT) laboratory. This opportunity is available to users who wish to automate their in vitro methods to assess their transferability, reliability, and overall performance. By generating large datasets from bespoke compound libraries, this initiative supports the evaluation of a method’s relevance for specific applications and advances the implementation of non-animal approaches to toxicological testing for the regulatory safety assessment of chemicals. The call deadline is 31 March 2025. More information about the call and how to apply on the dedicated webpage.
2025-02-28 MSCAThe opening of the Postdoctoral Fellowships call 2025 will be postponed by one month, from 9 April to 8 May 2025. The closing date remains the same. As with previous calls the MSCA PF 2025 call will be eventually included on the European Commission Funding and Tenders portal. To minimise the impact of the shortened application period, all information documents such as the Guide for Applicants, (static) application form, etc. will be uploaded in advance so that applicants are fully aware of all the call conditions.
2025-02-28 EICThe European Innovation Council (EIC) selected 71 cutting edge companies for funding, combining grants and equity, following the last 2024 EIC Accelerator cut-off in October. They have been selected among 1211 submitted proposals, out of which 431 have been invited to the jury interviews. 21% of the selected companies are led by women (as CEO, CSO or CTO), while there is a geographical spread spanning 16 countries. Four of the selected companies have benefitted from the ‘Plug In’ scheme. The scheme allows funding bodies managing certified national/regional programmes to submit projects from their portfolio directly to the full application stage of the EIC Accelerator. A further 330 applications that were assessed positively by the EIC jury, but for which there was insufficient funding available, will be awarded a Seal of Excellence. This recognition helps these companies to find alternative funding sources, including from the Recovery and Resilience Funds and European Regional Development Funds. 3 Belgian organisations will receive blended financing. 2025-02-26 Digital, Industry & SpaceYear after year, the European Space Agency - ESA creates new technologies and applications, typically filing 10 new patent applications per year. As a result, ESA has built a portfolio of around 550 patents and patent applications to date. Now, through a permanent open call, companies and startups from around the world can submit their ideas on how they would mature these patents, paving the way for improved commercialisation of ESA's innovations. "The main objective of this funding call is to establish collaboration with companies, making sure that ESA's ideas are never left in a drawer," says Mercedes Sánchez Álvarez, Technology Transfer Engineer at ESA. If companies or startups have an idea for the technical and commercial maturation of ESA inventions, they can now share this idea through OSIP. ESA is accepting applications on a rolling basis and is available to fund the maturation of these ideas with a budget of up to 175k €. An updated list of patents that companies and startups can work on can be found in the open call under "Commercial and technical maturation of ESA's inventions".
