The European Commission has launched a call for applications to join the European Ocean Board, which will advise on the European Ocean Pact. The call is open for four weeks and seeks professionals in ocean sustainability and maritime industries to contribute to sustainable ocean governance.

The European Ocean Board will consist of 25 appointed experts for a five-year term, with its first meeting planned for March 2026. This Board will offer guidance on the European Ocean Pact's implementation, focusing on the effective management of ocean-related challenges and ensuring coherence across various EU initiatives and private sector actions. The European Ocean Pact, implemented in 2025, outlines a vision for resilient and sustainably managed oceans, aiming to protect marine ecosystems and promote a sustainable blue economy while enhancing maritime security

Importantly, the Board will be integral to the upcoming ocean observation initiative, which supports ocean knowledge, research and innovation, ocean literacy, and the maritime economy.

Interested parties should visit the European Commission's website for more information on the application process.

Background: The EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters” is an execution-oriented Horizon Europe mission that delivers concrete solutions and innovations while the broader strategic, policy and governance framework is formed by the European Ocean Pact. The EU mission plays a central role within this framework as a driver for nature restoration, innovation and participation.

ERC grants awarded to professor Inez Germeys

Professor Inez Germeys leads the Center for Contextual Psychiatry at KU Leuven, which is a large multi-disciplinary research group focusing on the interaction between the person and the environment in the development of psychopathology. She has received a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator grant (INTERACT) and Proof of Concept grant (IMPACT). With these grants professor Germeys and her team researched a new mobile self-management therapy for patients with a psychotic disorder. The Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in Daily Life (ACT-DL) was further developed for the clinical environment. In line with that the Horizon 2020 IMMERSE project aims to thoroughly evaluate strategies, processes, and outcomes of implementing a digital mobile mental health solution.
