With its new priority for a European Green Deal the European Commission plans to make EU’s economy sustainable, by turning the climate and environmental challenges into opportunities.

In Horizon 2020 the Green Deal call  has been added to create visible close-to-market R&I projects that can help make the EU fully sustainable by 2050.The call is divided into 8 core themes taclinkg many domains and 2 supporting areas (on knowledge systems and research infrastructure and citizen engagement). More information can be found on the European Green Deal page of our website.

In preparation of the Research and Innovation days (22-24 september) where all the calls will be presented in detail, we will organize two webinars about this topic:

  • on 9 September (9:30-10:30): is aimed at interested parties that have no previous knowledge of the Green Deal. We will explain the topics in a very summarized way so you can determine if it falls within the scope of your activities
  • on 11 September (9:30-11:00): an expert from the European Commission (Sven Schade) will give his in-dept view into the background of the Green Deal. In the second part of this webinar,  we will give some information on the partnering tools in order for you to form a good consortium for the upcoming calls. We will close it off with a latest update on the EU Research and Industry days.

1 website with more information and 1 registration form is available for both events here.

Luciad - Geospatial software for mission-critical operations

Founded in 1999, Luciad serves clients in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Though it recently was acquired by Hexagon Geospatial, they kept an agile SME mindset. Thousands of end users work directly with Luciad’s geospatial applications, and major systems integrators (think Airbus Defense and Space, Lufthansa Systems, NATO, Thales…) incorporate its software in their own products.

NCP Flanders went to Leuven to interview Frederic Houbie, the Research Projects Manager at Luciad, about how he sees Horizon 2020. Luciad is a partner in the MARISA project, which is a collaborative RIA project submitted to an ICT call topic
