Two health-related Digital Europe call topics are now open for submission.

With call topic Apply AI: Piloting AI-based image screening in medical centres (DIGITAL-2026-AI-PILOTING-10-SCREENING) the European Commission aims to implement scalable cloud-based AI/GenAI systems running European trustworthy and safe AI/GenAI algorithms that were developed, trained and validated using very large sets of patient data. The call addresses, among others, healthcare providing organisations, medtech industry, SMEs, AI/GenAI developers, IT solution providers, research organisations, governmental authorities (at national, regional, local level), and non-governmental organisations representing key stakeholders, such as patients, and healthcare professionals. Detailed information on the call topic can be found in the call document.

Call topic Building capacity to deploy the EEHRxF and digital health services and systems to support the rights of citizens and reuse of health data under EHDS (DIGITAL-2026-BESTUSE-10-EHDS) supports the implementation of citizens’ rights to access and control their personal electronic health data and their freedom of movement through cross-border exchange of such data under the European Health Data Space (EHDS) legislation. The selected project will be expected to build capacity of public authorities and healthcare providers to deploy services and systems that support the rights of natural persons under the EHDS Regulation (primary use), to build capacity of health data holders to improve quality of data, create dataset descriptions and labels for electronic health data they hold (secondary use) and to train service providers, particularly Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), to support public authorities, healthcare providers and data holders in the implementation of the requirements set by the EHDS. The call document provides more detailed information on the call topic.

YoPA – Youth-centered participatory action for a healthy lifestyle

The YoPA project, ‘a youth-centred preventive action approach towards co-created implementation of socially and physically activating environmental interventions’ obtained funding from Horizon Europe’s Health Cluster. The project addresses the multifaceted challenges of physical inactivity and health inequalities through a unique participatory approach. The project places teenagers between 12 and 18 years old in vulnerable situations at the forefront of the intervention process. The Institute of Tropical Medicine is a partner in the project and will conduct a Realist Evaluation to understand how youth co-creation contributes to improved adolescent health and well-being in four cities in Denmark, Netherlands, Nigeria and South Africa.  By integrating its results and sharing its approach in an open access Toolbox, ITM aims to contribute to fostering sustainable, youth-led solutions for healthier urban environments.
