Since 2010 it has doubled in numbers but the figure remains low compared to other entrepreneurial sectors. The City of Hasselt took part in the ONELAB project (2022–2025) as an end user. The project was funded under Horizon Europe (HORIZON-CL3-2021-DRS-01-05) and focused on developing modular Rapid Response Mobile Laboratories (RRML). These laboratories are designed for rapid deployment in a variety of settings to support disease monitoring.
