Programmes Digital, Industry & SpaceThe European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) has launched on April 9 a call for proposals to expand its AI infrastructure through the establishment of AI Factory Antennas. The call invites entities or consortia to set up these Antennas in coordination with existing AI Factories across Europe. The initiative aims to strengthen national AI ecosystems by extending the services of AI Factories, providing remote access to AI-optimized supercomputing resources, and, where applicable, offering small-scale AI compute resources for fine-tuning and testing AI applications. The total indicative budget for this call is up to €70 million, with a maximum EU contribution of €5 million per Antenna, covering up to 50% of eligible costs. The deadline for proposal submissions is July 9, 2025.
This development is significant as it represents a strategic move to democratize access to high-performance AI resources across Europe. By enabling more regions to participate without the need for substantial investments in supercomputing infrastructure, the initiative fosters inclusivity and accelerates AI innovation. The AI Factory Antennas will play a crucial role in supporting the training and development of large-scale AI models and the validation of emerging AI applications, thereby enhancing Europe's competitiveness in the global AI landscape.
The initiative is particularly relevant for AI startups, SMEs, and research institutions seeking to leverage advanced AI capabilities. By providing access to AI-optimized computing resources and support services, the Antennas will facilitate the development and deployment of AI solutions across various sectors. This aligns with the broader objectives of the EuroHPC JU to establish a robust and interconnected network of AI hubs, ensuring that technological advancements are accessible and beneficial to a wide range of stakeholders across Europe.
