ProgrammesThe European Commission has launched a call for applications to join the European Ocean Board, which will advise on the European Ocean Pact. The call is open for four weeks and seeks professionals in ocean sustainability and maritime industries to contribute to sustainable ocean governance.
The European Ocean Board will consist of 25 appointed experts for a five-year term, with its first meeting planned for March 2026. This Board will offer guidance on the European Ocean Pact's implementation, focusing on the effective management of ocean-related challenges and ensuring coherence across various EU initiatives and private sector actions. The European Ocean Pact, implemented in 2025, outlines a vision for resilient and sustainably managed oceans, aiming to protect marine ecosystems and promote a sustainable blue economy while enhancing maritime security
Importantly, the Board will be integral to the upcoming ocean observation initiative, which supports ocean knowledge, research and innovation, ocean literacy, and the maritime economy.

The METHYLOMIC project, ‘targeting hope for personalised medicine in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases’ obtained funding from Horizon Europe’s Health Cluster. The project aims to personalise treatment allocation and enhance the effectiveness of medications for chronic immune-mediated diseases such as Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriasis. BIRD, the Belgian inflammatory bowel disease research and development group, is a partner in the project and is involved in the OmiCrohn trial, a prospective randomised clinical trial for individualised therapy in Crohn’s disease patients. With BIRD’s active role in this trial, the project is set to deliver predictive, biomarker-based therapies that bring renewed hope for Crohn’s disease patients across Europe.
