The informal network of the Italian research and innovation community in Brussels (GIURI) organizes an event that will explore future perspectives for Research and Technology Infrastructures (RTIs) in upcoming EU programmes and in the next Multiannual financial framework (MFF).
It will provide a platform for policymakers, researchers, innovators, industrial actors and other stakeholders to discuss emerging opportunities for the sector, the role of infrastructures in strengthening EU competitiveness, and the contribution of recent RTIs developments to the overall European R&I ecosystem.
The event is being organised following the publication of the European Commission’s Horizon Europe 2028-2034 proposal in July 2025 and the adoption of the new European strategy on research and technology infrastructures in September 2025.
Registration is required via the registration form made available in the event announcement on the GIURI website.
The European Strategy on Research and Technology Infrastructures
On 15 September 2025, the European Commission adopted a new, long-term European Strategy on Research and Technology Infrastructures. Research infrastructures and technology infrastructures range from advanced laboratories, large scientific instruments and data centres to pilot lines, testbeds and clean rooms. Together, they support the full innovation cycle – from frontier science to the validation and deployment of new technologies.
Europe’s ability to build a strong infrastructure ecosystem is being held back because of several challenges:
The strategy’s overarching objective is to ensure that scientists, researchers, innovators, inventors, and industry in Europe have at their disposal easily accessible, cutting-edge facilities, high-quality data and tailored services that drive scientific and technological excellence, industrial competitiveness and well-being of people.
We offer news and event updates, covering all domains and topics of Horizon Europe, Digital Europe & EDF (and occasionally, for ongoing projects, Horizon 2020).

The Horizon2020 twinning project ScreenME has as its objective to enhance excellence in screen media entrepreneurship at Tallinn University (TLU). To do so, ScreenME has established a network of universities across Europe that aim to improve research into and teaching of entrepreneurship for the screen media industry. ScreenME will develop a teaching course and will kick off research initiatives and projects on entrepreneurial activities in media organisations. The research group on ‘Studies in Media, Innovation and Technology (SMIT)’ of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is partner in the network and is involved in two cross-cutting activities of the project: support for early stage researchers and developing stakeholder involvement.
