The workshop is co-organised by the Permanent Representation of France to the European Union and the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the European Union, in collaboration with the Polish Science Contact Agency (PolSCA) of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Brussels.

The organisers state the following: the current EU research funding architecture successfully supports individual scientific excellence as well as collaborative projects and partnerships. Yet a gap remains for the long-term development of high-performing R&I communities working across institutions and national borders around a common scientific agenda. FP10 therefore offers an opportunity to consider a dedicated approach to supporting this “missing middle”: long-term, bottom-up, large-scale and researcher-driven collaborative initiatives capable of connecting complementary centres of excellence across Europe and anchoring them in enduring scientific ecosystems.

This event is designed to test whether a dedicated European Excellence Initiative could support transnational networks built around a shared scientific agenda.

Speakers are from France and Poland. A round table gathers academics and Mr. René Repasi, rapporteur on FP10. Concluding remarks are scheduled to be given by Mr. Manuel Aleixo, member of the cabinet of Commissioner Zaharieva.
