About

As in Horizon 2020, the integration of Social Science and Humanities (SSH) remains a principle throughout the Horizon Europe Programme especially in all the clusters, including missions and partnerships. Global challenges are very complex and cannot be solved by one disciplines but often require a collaboration between different disciplines. The disciplines in Social Science and Humanities (a list of SSH disciplines can be consulted on page 20 and 21 of the Horizon Europe Programme Guide) can play an very important role in resolving these complex challenges. Hence, when relevant contributions from Social Sciences and Humanities should be included in the proposals.

Where to find SSH topics?

Horizon Europe calls where contributions from the Social Sciences and Humanities are strongly encouraged or needed will be flagged and can be found on the Funding & Tenders Portal.

Net4Society has also compiled a document that provides an overview of all the calls in Horizon Europe under the current available works programmes that could be relevant for researchers from the Social Sciences and Humanities.

Evaluation

Proposals that are submitted under SSH Flagged Topics or call topics where SSH contribution is expected will be evaluated for their SSH contribution in the proposal. The experts will first refer to the topic description to identify what the expected SSH contributions are. With this in mind, they will evaluate the contributions from SSH in the proposal, according to the criteria. A proposal without a sufficient contribution/integration of SSH research and competences will receive a lower evaluation score so make sure to pay enough attention to this aspect in the proposal.

More information on the integration of Social Sciences and Humanities can also be found in the Horizon Europe Programme Guide (p.20-21)

GLAUKOS - Circular Solution for the Textile Industry

Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant coordinated the Glaukos project, which answered the call topic published in 2019 of Horizon 2020 Framework Programme ‘Develop bio-based fibres and/or functional molecules to improve the performance of textile products’ under the Framework of the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU). The consortium partners took up this challenge by valorising industrial side streams and setting up a circular approach to the textile industry.
