This event is organised by the Mission of Switzerland to the EU, Swisscore (Swiss information and liaison office in Brussels) and Eawag (the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology).
The programme brings together speakers from Eawag, the European Space Agency, the European Commission (head of Sector Oceans, Seas and Waters of DG RTD and the Joint Research Center), and Wetsus (European centre of excellence for sustainable water technology).
The briefing focuses on how research, technology and international cooperation can improve understanding of water challenges and strengthen resilience. It is set against the background of the EU Water Resilience Strategy and the European Commission’s planned Council Recommendation on Science Diplomacy, with attention to the role of Horizon Europe in supporting water technologies, research collaboration and knowledge development.

Funded under Horizon Europe (HORIZON-CL5-2022-D5-01-02), running from 2023 to 2026, AENEAS advanced the development of innovative electric energy storage solutions tailored for waterborne transport. The project has also created tools & platforms to support the optimal integration of new energy storage systems into vessels, assess their impact on overall system efficiency, and quantify potential reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. The project consortium, led by Flanders Make, consists of 14 partners from 8 countries. Read more about the project in this testimonial.
