Roots and Recipes celebrates the multi-dimensional aspects of food consumed in Africa and among the African diaspora in Europe. The event is open to everyone, of all ages and backgrounds, to discover the science behind food, and experience not only what we eat, but how food shapes our societies, our bodies, and our future. With a special focus on African and African diaspora food cultures, Roots and Recipes offers a look at the science of food, identity and belonging.

On Friday evening there is a screening of the documentary Roots and Plates: A Story Of Afro Food In Belgium, followed by a panel discussion with the filmmaker(s) and food researchers and an African Buffet. On Saturday there will be an African Food Citizen Science Fair, with demos and workshops for kids 6+, a music concert and African lunch and snacks.

The event is free with reservation. The African Buffet, lunch and snacks are subject to a charge. More information about the programme, activities and locations is available on the Roots & Recipes website.
