This symposium focuses on how Earth Observation can support soil protection, restoration and sustainable use. It brings together the scientific community and stakeholders to look at monitoring methods, validation approaches, reporting needs and downstream applications linked to soil health and land degradation. The programme is designed around policy needs, operational monitoring systems and the use of satellite data alongside in situ, airborne and modelling data.
Organised by the European Space Agency, the symposium looks at the role of Earth Observation (EO) in soil monitoring in the context of European soil policy, including the EU Soil Monitoring Law and the EU Soil Strategy for 2030. It aims to assess how EO can support Monitoring, Reporting and Verification frameworks, improve mapping and long-term tracking of soil condition, and identify future needs for EO-enabled soil information services.
Further practical information, including deadlines, abstract submission, registration and logistics, is available on the event website
The focus groups for this event are researchers in Earth Observation and soil science, public authorities and agencies working on soil monitoring and land management, and companies and service providers developing EO-based soil monitoring solutions. The programme focuses on scientific methods, operational monitoring systems, policy reporting and downstream applications.

Across Europe, many education systems face persistent challenges, including declining learning outcomes, high dropout rates, teacher shortages, and widening inequalities linked to socio-economic background. KU Leuven coordinates two Horizon Europe Cluster 2 projects that are strongly interlinked and aim to generate robust, evidence-based insights that can support more effective, inclusive, and resilient education systems across Europe.
