Roberto Viola, Director-General of DG Connect at the European Commission, is due to speak about European technological sovereignty in light of the European Commission’s tech sovereignty package proposal, followed by a Q&A session with selected questions from participants.
The session is designed to give participants an overview of European technological sovereignty and the context of the Commission’s tech sovereignty package proposal presented on 3 June. The tech sovereignty package comprises the Chips Act 2.0 to secure Europe's semiconductor base, the Cloud and AI Development Act to unlock Europe's cloud and AI capacity, an Open Source Strategy to strengthen digital autonomy, and a strategic roadmap to guide the digitalisation of Europe's energy system.
After the presentation, attendees can take part in a Q&A session with Roberto Viola.

The ATHENA project addresses emerging risks for the water sector in operational technology created by digitalisation. The project responds to Digital Europe call DIGITAL-ECCC-2022-CYBER-03-UPTAKE-CYBERSOLUTIONS – Uptake op Innovative Cybersecurity Solutions. The project started in September 2023 and will run until November 2026. De Vlaamse Waterweg - The Flemish Waterway participates in the project to enhance the resilience of the organisation by co-developing targeted training modules for operational technology environments.
