This info session on the upcoming European Research Council (ERC) Synergy grants call for proposals was organised by the National Contact Points (NCPs) for ERC in Belgium (NCP Federal BE, NCP-FNRS, NCP Flanders) to inform and help potential applicants and host institutions with the preparation of their ERC Synergy Grant proposal.
The next ERC Synergy Grant call under the 2022 work programme is expected to open on 15 July 2021 and to close on 10 November 2021.
ERC Synergy grants are for minimum two and maximum four Principal Investigators with their teams to tackle together ambitious research problems. The call will be open to researchers of any nationality and from any field of research, with a track-record assessed according to the level of their career stage. The applicants should demonstrate that the proposed research cannot be carried out by a single Principal Investigator working alone. One of the Principal Investigators can be located outside Europe. Synergy Grants can be up to a maximum of € 10 million for a period of 6 years. More information on ERC Synergy Grants.
Participation to the info session was free but registration was mandatory. It was targeted at researchers wishing to apply with a Belgian Host Institution or staff members of Belgian Host Institutions. PIs who are members of an ERC Synergy group including a Belgian Host Institution might also participate, in which case they should mention in the registration form this Belgian Host Institution as Host Institution.

The MareGraph project, ‘Towards an Interoperable Marine Knowledge Graph’, obtained funding under the Digital Europe topic ‘OPEN-AI – Public Sector Open Data for AI and Open Data Platform’. The project will increase the semantic, technical, and legal interoperability of three selected high-valued datasets (HVDs) all maintained by the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ), which is one of the four partners of the project. This will allow the onboarding of essential marine datasets in the Common European Data Spaces. As such MareGraph will provide a structural component in the digital transition of the marine landscape. The numerous impacts of the project will benefit our seas globally in old and new ways to come.
