Textiles of the Future

Textiles of the Future

In 2025, the European Commission launched a new European co-funded and co-programmed partnership “Textiles of the Future”. The collaborative projects funded through these calls will involve industry players, with a focus on SMEs, alongside research and technology organisations, universities, and other stakeholders. The aim is to focus on higher Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) to ensure the rapid deployment of developed solutions at an industrial scale within the European textile sector.

The first funding opportunities under this initiative were integrated in the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2025. The Textile Partnership calls in 2025, 2026 and 2027 will reflect the priorities set out in the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) published by Textile ETP in July 2024.

Priority areas

In a collaborative effort involving hundreds of experts from across the European textile ecosystem, the SRIA identifies 3 main priority areas:

  • Sustainable Materials & Clean Processes
  • Digital Supply Chains & New Business Models
  • Advanced Manufacturing & High-performance Textiles

Key documents

- Commission Press release of the launch of the Partnership

- Textile ETP news item on the launch of the Partnership

- In July 2024, Textile ETP published the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) for the Partnership. Developed by Textile ETP with input from its members, the SRIA addresses the major challenges of the ongoing green and digital transition in the textile sector.

What are partnerships?

Partnerships group the EC and private and/or public partners, to coordinate and streamline the research & innovation initiatives and funding in some selected key domains.

How to use partnerships?

  • orientation
Partnerships publish strategic documents, e.g. outlining the main research and innovation challenges or key focus points.
  • networking
Partnerships often organise events, such as info days, brokerage events, etc. Meet potential partners and learn about the nuances that are not visible in the official documents.
  • ecosystem analysis
Partnerships typically have an advisory board, and publish impact studies of previous actions. These are good sources of information to uncover the main R&D&I players in the domain.
  • steering the agenda
Partnerships collaborate with the EC on outlining the strategy and the future funding opportunities in their domain, based on input from industry, academia, and other stakeholders.

MareGraph - Towards an Interoperable Marine Knowledge Graph

The MareGraph project, ‘Towards an Interoperable Marine Knowledge Graph’, obtained funding under the Digital Europe topic ‘OPEN-AI – Public Sector Open Data for AI and Open Data Platform’. The project will increase the semantic, technical, and legal interoperability of three selected high-valued datasets (HVDs) all maintained by the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ), which is one of the four partners of the project. This will allow the onboarding of essential marine datasets in the Common European Data Spaces. As such MareGraph will provide a structural component in the digital transition of the marine landscape. The numerous impacts of the project will benefit our seas globally in old and new ways to come.
