The European Commission call for applications inviting top scientists researching AI or using AI in their research to join the newly formed RAISE High-Level Academic Advisory Board.

The group’s tasks shall be to:

• Assist Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DGs RTD) and for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT) in the preparation of policy initiatives in the field of AI science
• Bring about an exchange of experience and good practice in the field of AI Science
• Provide the Commission with input on specific policy issues at the request of DGs RTD and CNECT.
  • the content of work programmes of the Research and Innovation Framework Programme and/or partnerships
  • the organisational design of RAISE
  • the framework conditions necessary to help achieve the objectives of RAISE
  • the development of benchmarks and/or metrics for AI in different disciplines, as well as indicators to measure the success of RAISE

The group shall consist of 10-15 members. Members shall be appointed for 2 years. Their term of office may be renewed. DGs RTD and DG CNECT shall establish a reserve list.

Who could apply?

The Commission is looking for academics leading in AI research, working at the interface of AI fundamental research and its application across scientific fields.

Background

The Commission launched in the autumn of 2025 RAISE (the Resource for AI Science in Europe) under the European AI in Science Strategy (COM(2025) 724 final) presented alongside the Apply AI Strategy (COM(2025) 723 final), to pool Europe’s leading AI talent, computational power, data and research funding. Its goal is to accelerate breakthroughs in fundamental AI research and across scientific disciplines such as medicine, climate science and advanced materials, through the use of AI. The advisory board will be a key component of the governance of RAISE and will help consolidate efforts toward the uptake of AI in science and the acceleration of scientific breakthroughs in AI.
