The call is run with ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, under ESA’s Task Force for Innovation in Energy Through Space. It invites proposals for proof-of-concept studies and pilot projects that use space-enabled services to address operational challenges in European electricity transmission systems.

The activities are designed to build on existing Earth observation, positioning, navigation and timing, satellite communications and space weather services. According to the call page, the aim is to show how these capabilities can complement terrestrial solutions and support resilience and continuity of grid operations.

The call is organised in two themes that open one after the other.

  • Theme 1, "Situational Awareness for Critical Events", opened on 2 November 2026 and closes on 29 January 2027. It covers areas such as monitoring wildfires, floods and extreme weather, tracking transmission corridors and vegetation risks, integrating space weather information, and supporting post-event damage assessment and recovery.
  • Theme 2, "Strengthening Operational Resilience for the Grid", is scheduled to open on 1 February 2027 and close on 30 April 2027.

PREMIERE: ILVO participates in research strengthening the multi-actor approach

Funded under Horizon Europe (HORIZON-CL6-2022-GOVERNANCE-01-14), running from 2023 to 2027, PREMIERE aims to strengthen the multi-actor approach by supporting the development of more relevant, coherent, and well-prepared project proposals. Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (EV ILVO) is partner in the project consortium and leads the work package on the development and dissemination of practical tools to help stakeholders prepare successful multi-actor proposals.
