ProgrammesHow can European research remain open and collaborative while responding to growing security risks? What does proportionate research security look like in practice? And how can researchers and institutions be supported to navigate an increasingly complex environment?
Research security is moving rapidly from policy development towards implementation. Across Europe, governments, funders and research organisations are developing new approaches to risk assessment, due diligence, institutional support and decision-making. This INSPIRING ERA online event will explore how research security is being approached in practice while safeguarding academic freedom, openness and international collaboration. Participants will hear about current European developments and different approaches being taken at national, institutional and funder level. Through short presentations, practical examples and a panel discussion, the event will bring together perspectives from across Europe to explore key implementation challenges, share experiences and consider what is needed to make research security effective, proportionate and workable in practice.
Prior registration for this event is required here. All information related to this event, including the programme, is available in the announcement on the INSPIRING ERA website.
Background
This event is organised as part of a series of online events to support the implementation of the European Research Area (ERA) Policy Agenda. The organisers are ALLEA (All European Academies) and INSPIRING ERA, a project funded under Horizon Europe. ALLEA brings together 61 academies from 40 EU and non-EU countries, including KANTL, KVAB and Jonge Academie. The INSPIRING ERA project supports researchers, research and higher education institutions, and innovation actors in understanding and applying the outcomes of the ERA. It helps turn policy into practice by connecting the people who create ERA policies with those who are affected by them and make use of them on the ground.
We offer news and event updates, covering all domains and topics of Horizon Europe, Digital Europe & EDF (and occasionally, for ongoing projects, Horizon 2020).

The Stargate project obtained funding under the special Green Deal call of Horizon 2020, more in particular under the topic of “green ports and airports”. It received the maximum score of the evaluators and was selected out of more than 40 projects. Stargate’s purpose is to prove that sustainable aviation is possible and happening. It focuses on the further decarbonization of the aviation industry, the improvement of local environmental quality and the stimulation of the modal split. Together with a consortium of 21 European partners with a diverse and rich expertise (airports, community partners, knowledge institutions, consultants, local governments, …), Brussels Airports takes the lead as lighthouse airport to develop and implement innovative solutions. Results that prove successful can be deployed at the fellow airports (Toulouse, Budapest, Athens). Over the course of the coming five years, the consortium will exchange knowledge to investigate and realize more than 30 concrete projects.
