Science|Business will host a public conference on security-related aspects, bringing together members of its international Network, EU institutions, and key stakeholders from research, industry, and government.

The discussion will focus on the evolving European security landscape in light of recent geopolitical developments, and the implications for EU policy, research, and innovation. Topics will include the ReArm Europe Plan, the White Paper for European Defence – Readiness 2030, and related initiatives aimed at strengthening Europe’s defence capabilities and industrial base.

Participants will explore the following aspects:

  • What will define “secure” in Europe’s most important sectors in the short and medium term?
  • How can science and technology help the EU and its member states achieve that goal?
  • How will ReArm Europe/Readiness 2030 translate in terms of research and innovation priorities and funding?
  • From an implementation standpoint, how will the European Defence Fund and other instruments evolve?
  • Looking at specific sectors, can the EU readiness and preparedness strategy provide a one-size-fits-all roof to address industry-specific security challenges?
  • What are the critical actions needed to ensure the security of Europe’s R&I ecosystem itself?

More information on the event and the possibility to register can be found on the event website.

ERC grants awarded to professor Inez Germeys

Professor Inez Germeys leads the Center for Contextual Psychiatry at KU Leuven, which is a large multi-disciplinary research group focusing on the interaction between the person and the environment in the development of psychopathology. She has received a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator grant (INTERACT) and Proof of Concept grant (IMPACT). With these grants professor Germeys and her team researched a new mobile self-management therapy for patients with a psychotic disorder. The Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in Daily Life (ACT-DL) was further developed for the clinical environment. In line with that the Horizon 2020 IMMERSE project aims to thoroughly evaluate strategies, processes, and outcomes of implementing a digital mobile mental health solution.
