The NCBR Office in Brussels, in cooperation with Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre (JU), and University of Zielona Góra invites stakeholders from public authorities, research organisations, European research infrastructures and industry to the event “Moonshot Space at the Full Moon”, dedicated to the role of space technologies in strengthening Europe’s competitiveness, security and resilience, and to the promotion of the ESA centre in Poland with a security and defence profile.

The event will serve as a high-level platform for dialogue on space as a strategic domain under the evolving EU policy framework, including the European Competitiveness Fund and the 10th Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10, 2028–2034). Particular attention will be given to dual‑use technologies, security and defence-related applications, as well as pathways from scientific excellence to deployment and industrial scale-up.

The programme will include:

  • live observation of the full Moon on 29 June, real-time viewing of the Sun, and a direct signal from an electron beam travelling at the speed of light.
  • policy interventions by representatives of the European Commission, ESA and national authorities,
  • brokerage session bringing together research infrastructures, academia, agencies and space industry stakeholders,
  • panel discussion on strengthening the presence of European research and technological infrastructures in widening countries as a driver of excellence under FP10,
  • celebration of 100 Years of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation,

The meeting aims to foster cooperation between science, industry and public institutions, support coalition‑building around strategic space technologies and contribute to the European debate on future investments in research, innovation and competitiveness.

PLEDGE: VUB participates in research on politics of grievance and democratic governance

The Horizon Europe project PLEDGE investigates the emotional dynamics of political protest in the context of multiple, overlapping crises that have affected Europe and the world over the past decade, including the financial crisis, the COVID‑19 pandemic, climate change, energy shortages, and the war in Ukraine.

The project, in which the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is participating, responded to call topic HORIZON-CL2-2023-DEMOCRACY-01-04.
