Enhancing EU R&I

Across the European Research Area, universities, research organisations, funders and public authorities are seeking to strengthen research excellence, attract and retain talent, increase competitiveness and maximise the impact of research and innovation. Research management capacity is a key enabler of these ambitions. Research managers support activities ranging from funding strategy, international collaboration and project implementation to research careers, impact, compliance, data stewardship, research infrastructures and institutional development.

This event aims to explore research management as a strategic capacity that supports institutional performance, research excellence and successful engagement in European research and innovation activities. It will highlight why research management matters for institutional performance and ERA priorities, and how organisations can strengthen research management capacity in practice.

Participants can hear from European-level, national and institutional perspectives, including examples of approaches to professionalisation, skills development, competence frameworks, recognition, career pathways, HR and career policy, and institutional models that embed research management more effectively into strategy, governance and leadership.

The event is aimed at a broad European audience, including university and research organisation leadership, funders, policymakers, public authorities, research managers and support professionals.

Prior registration is required here. All information related to this event is available in the announcement on the INSPIRING ERA website.

Background

This event is organised as part of a series of online events to support the implementation of the European Research Area Policy Agenda. The organisers are RM Framework and INSPIRING ERA, both projects funded under Horizon Europe. The first aims to support the development of a European qualification system for Research Management (RM), enhancing interoperability and improving the RM profession within the European Research Area (ERA). The latter supports researchers, research and higher education institutions, and innovation actors in understanding and applying the outcomes of the European Research Area (ERA). It helps turn policy into practice by connecting the people who create ERA policies with those who are affected by them and make use of them on the ground.

EHRI-IP - European Holocaust Research Infrastructure

The European Holocaust Research Infrastructure Implementation Phase (EHRI-IP) project was funded under Horizon Europe call topic HORIZON-INFRA-2023-DEV-01-02. The project duration was two years and came to an end in February 2026. The main objective of the EHRI-IP project was to undertake all necessary legal, financial and strategic work to have a permanent organisation or ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium) fully operational by the end of the implementation phase. The project consortium consisted of 14 partners from 13 countries. Read more about the project and the contribution of Flemish partner Kazerne Dossin in this testimonial.
