This info session on European Research Council (ERC) Starting and Consolidator grants 2022 calls was organised by the National Contact Points (NCPs) for ERC in Belgium (NCP-FNRS & NCP Flanders) to help applicants in the preparation of their ERC Starting Grant proposal or Consolidator Grant proposal. It was also aimed at researchers who are considering applying in the future.

Due to the beginning of the new framework programme Horizon Europe, the ERC call calendar for 2022 is still a bit delayed. It is nonetheless high time for researchers to start preparing their applications. The ERC Starting Grant call has a tentative closing date on 13/01/2022, whereas the ERC Consolidator Grant call should close on 17/03/2022.

ERC Starting Grant call 2022 is targeting researchers having been awarded a PhD degree between 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2019 (inclusive). ERC Consolidator Grant call 2022 is targeting researchers having been awarded a PhD degree between 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2014 (inclusive). They are the two biggest ERC calls as they jointly account for more than 60% of the ERC 2022 budget.

Participation to the info session was free but restricted to researchers wishing to apply with a Belgian Host Institution, or staff members of Belgian Host Institutions. Registration was mandatory.

UNCHAIN - Revolutionising urban logistics & space management

The UNCHAIN project, ‘urban logistics and planning: anticipating urban freight generation and demand including digitalisation of urban freight’ obtained funding from the Horizon Europe’s Mobility Cluster. The project focuses on breaking down data silos and promoting public-private data exchange across a unified European mobility data space, enabling more informed decisions and greater efficiency. The City of Mechelen is a partner in the project and takes on the role of ‘follower city’: it will work alongside the primary demonstration sites (in Madrid, Berlin and Florence) to maximize the geographical coverage and replicability of solutions across Europe. Mechelen aims to test 2 concrete solutions in the UNCHAIN project, with the aim to help addressing its current and future challenges in urban freight distribution.
