ProgrammesThe DEFRA thematic call for proposals on “Pulsed Directed Energy Effectors” is now open. Pre-proposals must be submitted by 11 September 2026 at 14.00, and access to the submission SharePoint site is limited to the coordinator of each pre-proposal. An online information session is planned for 31 August 2026, with mandatory registration by 28 August 2026 at 17.00.
The Defence-related Research Action (DEFRA), run through cooperation between BELSPO and the Royal Higher Institute for Defence (RHID), has opened its thematic call for proposals on “Pulsed Directed Energy Effectors”. General information about the programme and the call is available on the DEFRA website.
Pre-proposals must be submitted through a dedicated SharePoint site. To request access, the coordinator should email defra@belspo.be and state their name, email address and the theme for which they want to submit a pre-proposal. Access to the SharePoint folder is restricted to one person per pre-proposal, namely the coordinator. The submission deadline is 11 September 2026 at 14.00.
An online information session is planned for 31 August 2026 from 13.30 to 15.00. It is designed to explain the context, scope, timeline, rules, themes, submission procedure, evaluation process, and safety and ethical aspects of the call.
Registration is mandatory and closes on 28 August 2026 at 17.00.

Funded under Horizon Europe (HORIZON-CL5-2022-D5-01-02), running from 2023 to 2026, AENEAS advanced the development of innovative electric energy storage solutions tailored for waterborne transport. The project has also created tools & platforms to support the optimal integration of new energy storage systems into vessels, assess their impact on overall system efficiency, and quantify potential reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
