EU Code Week tenders open for 2027-2030

The European Commission has published a call for tenders for EU Code Week activities covering 2027 to 2030. The contract is designed to support coding education, learning resources, outreach, community building and IT system development across Europe.  The new contract aims to strengthen the EU Code Week community, attract more young people, help teachers use coding across subjects, improve coding and computational thinking skills, expand learning resources and training, increase outreach and registered activities, and support greater participation by girls in coding and digital skills development. The successful contractor would be expected to run communication and engagement campaigns, manage and grow the community, develop learning resources, organise training and events, operate and develop the Code Week IT system, and monitor impact. The opportunity is relevant for organisations with experience in digital education and skills, communication and outreach, and IT systems development and operation. More information is available on the Commission website and through the EU Funding & Tenders Portal linked from that page. Deadline for applications is 15 September 2026.  Background: EU Code Week is a European Commission-supported grassroots initiative that encourages people of all ages to explore coding and computational thinking, with the aim of making digital skills learning more accessible and engaging.

Call for good practices of Research & Technology Infrastructures

Share your good practice and showcase how you improve access for companies to use Research and Technology Infrastructures. Policy context The European Strategy on Research and Technology Infrastructures calls for improving the access to Research and Technology infrastructures for industrial users. To accelerate and support this, the European Commission is launching an outreach campaign to increase the visibility of infrastructure services, facilitate peer-learning and provide networking opportunities. Call for good practices: Share what works To kick-off the outreach campaign, the European Commission invites infrastructure hosts and operators to share examples of good practices that improve access to research and technology infrastructures for industrial actors, especially SMEs, startups or scaleups. Next steps in the campaign The practices will be collected in an open repository for peer learning purposes, and will feed into outreach activities, such as a series of online seminars. The Commission will also host physical events to facilitate networking. More information about this initiative, including the submission guidelines (PDF) and form to submit your best practice, is available in the announcement on the European Commission DG R&I webpage.

Two expression of interest calls to join Community of Practices on knowledge valorisation

Currently there are two expression of interest calls to join Community of Practices on knowledge valorisation: Community of Practice for developing the competence framework for knowledge valorisation intermediaries The European Commission is launching a public call for R&I actors to participate in a Community of Practice for developing the competence framework for knowledge valorisation intermediaries. The objective of the competence framework is to support building capacity and fostering organisational competencies of knowledge valorisation intermediaries across Europe. The participants in the Community of Practice will exchange views and their experiences, share best practices, and provide contributions to the competence framework. The input from the community of practice is instrumental in collecting the practitioners’ views on the common denominators for a customisable EU framework of competencies dedicated to knowledge valorisation intermediaries. The ideas gathered through the Community of Practice will shape principles that will inform the future European Commission policy guidance for knowledge valorisation intermediaries based on the mandate under the European Research Area (ERA) Policy Agenda 2025-2027. This is particularly relevant for the ERA action ‘Upscaling knowledge valorisation capacities and activities’ to strengthen links between academia, industry and public authorities. The work of the Community of Practice will take place through online means (in around 4-5 meetings). It is starting in September and the work will be completed by the end of November.  Express your interest to join the Community of Practice regarding the competence framework for knowledge valorisation intermediaries by 15 September 2026. More background information on the initiative Community of Practice on increasing the valorisation of multidisciplinary research The European Commission is launching a Community of Practice to bring together R&I actors across Europe who are involved in generating, valorising or using multidisciplinary research and innovation results. The Community will exchange best practices on enabling conditions for valorisation and identify practical as well as structural solutions on how to strengthen the uptake and use of these results. The Community of Practice will be kicked off in September and its work will be completed by early December 2026. It will include four online meetings and opportunities to share best practices. The ideas and experiences gathered through the Community will shape recommendations that will inform the future European Commission policy guidance on increasing the uptake of multidisciplinary research and innovation results.  This is part of ERA Policy Agenda 2025-2027, notably the action ‘Upscaling knowledge valorisation capacities and activities’. Express your interest to join the Community of Practice to co-create recommendations on how to increase uptake of multidisciplinary research More background information on the initiative

ANERIS - Next generation tools for sensing and monitoring marine-life

Funded under Horizon Europe (HORIZON-INFRA-2022-TECH-01) and running from 2023 to 2026, the ANERIS project aims to tackle the rapid loss of ocean biodiversity. The project’s main objective is to develop, test and implement the next generation of scientific instrumentation tools and methods for sensing and monitoring marine-life. Another key concept of the project is the introduction of the concept of Operational Marine Biology (OMB) as a biodiversity information system. The project consortium consists of 25 partners from 13 countries. Read more about the project and the contribution of Flemish partner VLIZ in this testimonial.
