DIANA challenge on decision superiority

NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) has published a challenge on decision superiority for NATO warfighters. The challenge is designed to find dual-use solutions that help users collect, combine and interpret large amounts of information in real time, including in degraded or contested settings. The focus appears to include improved situational awareness, support for command decisions, and tools that help turn data into usable insight. Relevant technologies may include artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced analytics, sensor fusion, visualisation, decision-support systems and human-machine teaming. The challenge appears to look for solutions that can work across domains and support faster, more accurate and more resilient decision-making. For this challenge, DIANA seeks to identify AI-enhanced, ML and related software solutions to increase analytical depth, dynamism, and decision speed during operational planning and execution. This challenge is targeted at start-ups, scale-ups and non-traditional suppliers to the defence industry, with mature solutions that are TRL7 or above to enable deployment within months. Further details should be checked on the official challenge page, including scope, eligibility, deadlines and application conditions: https://www.diana.nato.int/challenges/decision-superiority-for-nato-warfighters.html

ERC Scientific Council readjusts rules for resubmission of proposals for calls in 2027 work programme

The ERC Scientific Council has listened to the concerns from members of the research community about the recent announcement on changes to the resubmission rules. The changes, intended to manage the surge in demand for ERC grants, pertain to calls for proposals in the forthcoming 2027 ERC Work Programme. The Scientific Council has decided to readjust some of the announced changes related to resubmissions. Its response to the community is set out in a letter signed by ERC President Maria Leptin on behalf of the Scientific Council, published on the ERC website today. In a footnote of the published letter the adjustments can be found. The Scientific Council will explain their thinking and responses to the proposals from the community in a separate document to be published on the ERC website in due course.

The AI on Demand platform launches its first call

The AI-on-Demand Platform (AIoD) is launching its first open call for mature AI, specifically targeting the private sector. With this initiative, the platform aims to support mature AI solutions that are ready to be integrated into the European AI ecosystem. Participating organisations can benefit from financial support, technical guidance and increased visibility within the AIoD community. The call is open from 9 April to 8 June 2026. The call is primarily aimed at AI Providers: SMEs and research organisations that want to offer an existing, sufficiently mature AI solution through the platform. To be eligible, applicants must be established in an EU Member State, have a valid PIC and VAT number, and offer a market-ready AI solution at TRL 7 or above that can be integrated into the platform, for example via Docker containers. AI Adopters come into play mainly in the final phase of the programme, when solutions are tested in real-world business environments. The programme runs from 1 September 2026 to 30 April 2027 and consists of three consecutive phases. Only organisations that successfully complete each phase can move on to the next. Phase 1 (September 2026): selection of 50 AI Providers, each receiving € 5k. With this sum they can refine their business plan for AIoD alignment, provide initial platform feedback, and pitch their solution at a live industry event. Phase 2 (October - December 2026): 20 selected organisations integrate their solution into the AIoD platform and receive € 35k. With this sum they can fully integrate their solution into the AIoD Platform and become a platform beta-tester. Phase 3 (January - April 2027): 10 consortia, each consisting of an AI Provider and an AI Adopter, test the integrated solution in a business context. Funding amounts to € 20k for the AI Provider and € 15k for the AI Adopter. Together, they can deploy the AI solution in a real-world business use case and showcase the results. To participate, proposals must be submitted through this submission platform. Before submitting, applicants need to create an AIoD Platform account and list their company profile in Business Navigator.  Background: The AI-on-Demand Platform is an initiative of the European Commission and funded under the Horizon Europe and Digital Europe programmes. It serves as a central gateway to European AI expertise, tools and services. With this call, the platform aims to accelerate the adoption of trustworthy, high‑quality AI and strengthen collaboration between industry and research.

EITHOS - European Identity Theft Observatory System

The EITHOS project, funded under Horizon Europe Cluster 3 call “Online identity theft is countered”, aims to develop a “European Identity Theft Observatory System” (EITHOS). The system will provide easy access to information and intelligence about previous and current identity theft related trends to empower EU citizens, Law Enforcements Agencies (LEAs), and policy makers to further contribute to the prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes related to online identity theft. The Cyber and Data Security Lab (CDSL), part of the Law, Science, Technology and Society (LSTS) Research Group at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), is one of the 12 partners in the EITHOS consortium, contributing its vast expertise on legal aspects of data protection, cybersecurity and information security law and policy.
