Getting ready for 2026 call opportunities: NCP support

New year, new opportunities. The Horizon Europe 2026-2027 work programme was published in December and new calls have recently opened or will open soon. Under the Digital Europe programme, several calls are currently open (deadline March 2026) and a new wave of calls is expected in spring.Are you exploring your options or already developing a proposal? Info days, brokerage events and matchmaking platforms - Horizon Europe work programme 2026-2027 - 2026 call topics

The European Commission and/or its agencies organise info days on the 2026 call topics and these are often complemented by brokerage events, organised by National Contact Point (NCP) networks and/or the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN). These events provide opportunities to connect with potential collaboration partners. In addition, several programmes offer dedicated matchmaking platforms to facilitate partner searches. Cascade funding opportunities: local digital twins

The LDT4SSC (Local Digital Twins for Smart and Sustainable Communities) project has opened a new cascade funding call to local network of cities, regions, and digital innovators. This call supports co-funding for three Work Strands with a minimum available budget of 10.8 Million euros: - Work strand 1 - interconnecting existing LDTs: At least 2.1 million - Work strand 2 - Creating new LDTs based on common needs: At least 5.8 million - Work strand 3 - Adding advanced AI capabilities: At least 2.9 million The LDT4SSC project is a initiative funded by the Digital Europe Programme, aiming to accelerate the adoption of Local Digital Twins to help communities achieve their climate and sustainability goals through data-driven decision-making. Opportunities for photonics students

Phortify - Photonics Education Network for Next-Gen Innovation and Digital Skills Excellence for Industry and Society has launched a number of cascade funding calls to support students and young professionals in the area of photonics: Phortify Grants for Mentorship workshop on career growth and professional development - Pilot Call (application deadline: 31 May 2026) Phortify Master Programme Scholarships - Pilot Call (application deadline: 3 April 2026) Phortify Grants for Master Thesis Project - Pilot Call (application deadline: 3 February 2027) Phortify Mobility Grants - Pilot Call (application deadline: 3 February 2027) Phortify Internship (Traineeship) Grants - Pilot Call (application deadline: 3 February 2027) More information about the different opportunities can be found via the links provided in the list above. Participating Master programmes in Flemish universities are Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB): Master of Science in Photonics Engineering  Ghent University (UGENT): Master of Science in Photonics Engineering Background:  Phortify is dedicated to the Enhancement and Harmonisation of Photonics education and training across Europe. Phortify offers a two-year European Master’s in Photonics Engineering, combining advanced coursework, hands-on laboratory training, and cutting-edge digital skills development, structured mobility windows and industry placements. Students who complete the Phortify track receive an official Phortify Certificate in addition to their Master’s degree. Students can enrol in a Phortify-related master programme at any of the 7 participating universities. In addition, Phortify provides stand-alone modules with harmonised standards for quality assurance and certification, offering high flexibility and mobility for both students and industry professionals. Finally, Phortify organises mentoring programmes for women postdocs and early PIs as well as one-day immersive experience events for prospective students, providing a unique opportunity to explore photonics and its applications.

Cascade funding opportunities for cybersecurity

Two projects funded under the Digital Europe programme currently offer the possibility to apply for cascade funding: SECURE-CALL #1 - SECURE First Open Call For Proposals To help micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) adapt to the requirements of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), SECURE provides targeted funding opportunities designed to support your journey toward cybersecurity compliance. Support and benefits 50% co-financing for projects that enhance cyber resilience A simple, transparent application process via a dedicated online platform developed and maintained by SECURE Clear evaluation criteria and fair selection procedures Access to interactive guidance tools and a supportive community Eligible applicants: single legal entities qualifying as micro, small or medium‑sized enterprises (mSMEs) More information on the call website. Deadline to submit applications: 29 March 2026. CYSSDE Open Call 3: Penetration Testing and Vulnerability Assessment Call Overview The CYSSDE project invites entities with cybersecurity expertise to apply for Open Call 3. This initiative, funded by the European Union, aims to strengthen the cyber resilience of Member States by supporting the practical implementation of the NIS2 Directive and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). The objective of this call is to select up to 12 projects that will conduct penetration tests and vulnerability assessments for critical sectors. Scope and Objectives Selected beneficiaries will enter an 18-month Support Programme to deliver high-quality security testing services. The primary requirement for each beneficiary is to perform at least 10 penetration tests for external end-users. Support and Benefits Maximum Grant: Up to €200,000.00 per project (Lump Sum). Funding Rate: 50% co-funding (applicants must cover the remaining 50% through their own resources). Non-Financial Support: Access to the CYSSDE Mentoring Programme, including technical guidance, tool repositories, and networking with the European cybersecurity ecosystem. Eligible Applicants: SMEs, mid-caps, large companies, research centres (including universities), and public bodies with cybersecurity expertise Composition: Applications are accepted from individual entities or consortia (up to 2 entities, led by a cybersecurity specialist). Geographical Eligibility: Applicants must be registered in and controlled by entities within an EU Member State or an EEA country. More information on the call website. The RI provides the tools for long-term analysis highlighting the dynamics of the past and the way those dynamics structure our present and future.

The EURHISFIRM European project received € 3.4 million in financing from the European Commission through the H2020-INFRADEV-2017-1 research infrastructures call. The project started with a consortium of eleven research organisations (including University of Antwerp) from seven European countries.
