The Commission appointed an independent Search Committee that will make recommendations to the Commission on the best candidates for the position of president of the ERC. The Commission invites both individual applications as well as nominations by organisations and bodies’ representatives of the scientific and research community. The Search Committee will assess the nominations and applications received based on the factors and conditions set out in the statement on the search process and identify a shortlist of three candidates to be proposed to the European Commission to select the next ERC President. Applications and nominations are accepted until Friday 20 November 2020 at 17:00 (CET). The new ERC President is expected to be appointed by the end of the first quarter of 2021. The term of office is limited to four years, renewable once.

The RUSTICA project obtained funding under Horizon 2020, more in particular under the topic ‘Closing nutrient cycles’. RUSTICA focuses on demonstration and implementation of circular bio-based nutrient valorisation chains, focusing on waste from the fruit and vegetable agro-food system. The project kicked off in 2021 and will run until 2024. It will use a strong multi-actor approach to co-create both socio-economic and technological knowledge in four case study regions in Europe and one in Colombia. The Flanders-based company DRANCO is one of the project partners and acts as technical project manager for the entire project. DRANCO participates in the project to develop its own technologies, to network and to help make the transition to a more circular based economy.
